Completed! - Psylocke (e2046 recast)

Thoughts on the kit...
This is a e2046 recast of the Kotobukiya Bishoujo Psylocke. I've been a fan of Psylocke since the mid '90s when Jim Lee started on X-Men. I find this anime version of her very intriguing, so when I stumbled on to the recast, I had to get it. Check out my unboxing here. The recast was fairly solid. Legs didn't fit together well, but it's not really a big deal. On the legs and arms, there are pour marks right over the bands on her outfit. Kind of annoying as adding those details back may not be as easy as one may think. Base is pretty nice. In y opinion, the pour marks make it hard to keep the base clear. With what you get, along with a little work, I think it really is possible to make what you would get from Kotobukiya.

Thoughts on my work...
I did a terrible job on this. I started this kit after I bailed on my Clare kit. I thought I learned enough from that experience to do a solid job. I was wrong :( The plan was to go for a slight recolor to make it resemble my favorite version of Psylocke, the version drawn by Jim Lee. As far as the colors go, I think I did pretty well. Hair is a little lighter than it should be, but I think the other color choices work. My rescribing of the details on the arms and legs look really bad. My masking didn't work so well most of the time. The eyes look pretty bad as well. I tried and they look better than my first attempt, so I'm not as upset about that. I was playing around with chrome on the base. Putting future over that is bad idea. Fogs up the chrome and removes most of the shine. I actually was talking to a guy from Alclad today and he told me that the way most clears dry cause the problem. Could have used that knowledge earlier. Oh well. Blue part looks pretty good though. The blue on her outfit turned out pretty good as well. Too bad poor masking skills got blue where it doesn't belong. I think the hair looks pretty good. Color is a little light, but getting rid of the seam line and that extra hair piece is a real step up from the original.

Overall I don't like this kit. So much so that I won't even be putting it on the shelf. I'm just really disappointed with this. Although my work wasn't up to the standard I wanted it to be, I really did enjoy working on a figure. Hopefully, the next one go better.

Weekly WIP - Psylocke (Part 2)

Here's where the kit stands now. Not terribly happy with it. Where the legs connect just doesn't work. But I've tried a few things to fix it, but it just didn't happen. The rest I think looks ok. For those that don't know, Psylocke has had a lot of variations on her look. Eye color, sword, color, sash color have all changed depending on the artist. Since I got into comics in the 90's Jim Lee is the standard for me and X-Men characters. So I'm going with very light blue eyes, dark red lips, dark purple hair, grey sword handles, and magenta sash.

What else I'm into...

Jim Lee's artwork. If you aren't aware of his work, stop reading this and go look it up. Very good stuff. X-Men, WildCATS, Batman, Justice League just to name a few. His art is pretty easy to pick out and I'm far from the only one to enjoy his work. At conventions there's always a really long line to meet him. Whenever DC is pushing something new, he's at least drawing the cover if not the first few issues.

Weekly WIP - Psylocke (Part 1)

So after month of sitting around like this...

I finally started working on her again. Been through a round of sanding and putty, then primer, then more sanding and putty. Not sure that it's going to look good, but I'm sick of sanding it. So the last coat of primer will be the last of my prep work.Here's what the kit looks like right now. 

I've barely touched the swords. Straightening the swords will be easy. I have no idea how I'm going to paint them though.

What else I'm into...

Persona 4 Arena. Nice change of pace from UMVC3. Although I can't recommend the game now, as I haven't had much time to play, but this game has been a lot of fun so far. 

What's in the box? - Psylocke

Received a new resin figure yesterday. It's a figure of Psylocke from the X-Men (purchased from e2046). As I mentioned in the Wonder Woman unboxing, I'm a fan of Marvel and DC Bishoujo figures. I became a fan of Psylocke during the Jim Lee run on X-Men.

Box arrived in good shape.

This kit looks great. I see no obvious defects in the casting. The swords are a little crooked and there's some flash on hair, but for the most part they appear to be the only defects. I also love the base that is included. And it's clear! Allows for a lot of painting possibilities. I can't express how happy I am with this kit. I recommend this kit for anyone. I was so happy with the kit, I could resist putting it together right away.

Legs, arms, and head will require a little putty to remove the seam lines, but after that it should be ready for some paint. I'm already working on the Strike Freedom and Clare (WIP coming soon), so unfortunately this kit will be staying in this state for a little while. Going to have to work hard on those kits so I can work on this one.
