Completed! - Psylocke (e2046 recast)

My second resin figure (first completed figure).

Thoughts on the kit...
This is a e2046 recast of the Kotobukiya Bishoujo Psylocke. I've been a fan of Psylocke since the mid '90s when Jim Lee started on X-Men. I find this anime version of her very intriguing, so when I stumbled on to the recast, I had to get it. Check out my unboxing here. The recast was fairly solid. Legs didn't fit together well, but it's not really a big deal. On the legs and arms, there are pour marks right over the bands on her outfit. Kind of annoying as adding those details back may not be as easy as one may think. Base is pretty nice. In y opinion, the pour marks make it hard to keep the base clear. With what you get, along with a little work, I think it really is possible to make what you would get from Kotobukiya.

Thoughts on my work...
I did a terrible job on this. I started this kit after I bailed on my Clare kit. I thought I learned enough from that experience to do a solid job. I was wrong :( The plan was to go for a slight recolor to make it resemble my favorite version of Psylocke, the version drawn by Jim Lee. As far as the colors go, I think I did pretty well. Hair is a little lighter than it should be, but I think the other color choices work. My rescribing of the details on the arms and legs look really bad. My masking didn't work so well most of the time. The eyes look pretty bad as well. I tried and they look better than my first attempt, so I'm not as upset about that. I was playing around with chrome on the base. Putting future over that is bad idea. Fogs up the chrome and removes most of the shine. I actually was talking to a guy from Alclad today and he told me that the way most clears dry cause the problem. Could have used that knowledge earlier. Oh well. Blue part looks pretty good though. The blue on her outfit turned out pretty good as well. Too bad poor masking skills got blue where it doesn't belong. I think the hair looks pretty good. Color is a little light, but getting rid of the seam line and that extra hair piece is a real step up from the original.

Overall I don't like this kit. So much so that I won't even be putting it on the shelf. I'm just really disappointed with this. Although my work wasn't up to the standard I wanted it to be, I really did enjoy working on a figure. Hopefully, the next one go better.

  1. Aww don't beat yourself up too much. It's good to have a critical eye because it means you value the quality of your work. Imho this is pretty good for a 2nd kit. The hair shading and glossy blue/purple you used for the outfit are nice features to your build. I also like the skin tone. Like you said masking and painting the eyes were the difficult parts. Have you tried using a 000 brush for the eyes? It helps a lot. Anyhow the masking/eyes can be tweaked on your next kit. I just started building late last year so I'm in the same boat but I see improvement in every kit I do so head up :) Also if you're absolutely unhappy with the kit, you can break it down, strip the paint and repaint it. I've done that with a kit and it came out much better the 2nd time around. Good job and best of luck to you!
